third mainland bridge opens today october 30

one week ahead of scheduled opening

The third mainland bridge is to be opened today October 30, one week ahead of the scheduled delivery date of November 6, 2012.

This is according to the Special Adviser to the Minister of Works on Media, Mr. Tony Ikpasaja in a telephone conversation on Monday.

According to him, the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, will open the rehabilitated bridge to motorists at a ceremony that will also have in attendance federal and Lagos State government officials and other stakeholders

If you could remember, the government had partially closed the bridge on July 7 to enable the contractor, Messrs Boroni Prono and Company Limited, to replace eight expansion joints on the bridge for a contract sum of N1bn.
The reopening of the bridge will come as a welcome relief to motorists and commuters, who have had to connect Lagos Island, Victoria Island, Lekki, Ajah and Epe from different parts of the mainland through Western Avenue due to restriction of vehicular movement on the bridge from 12 noon to 12am, while opening for movement to the mainland within the same time.

As expected, Nadal will be out for the rest of the season due to a left knee problem.

The world No 4 missed the Olympics and the US Open after revealing he had a partial tear in his patella tendon and it was always unlikely he would return during the indoor hard-court season, which is his least favourite surface.

He will now also miss the last two tournament of the season in Paris and London.

He has said, ' I will hopefully resume my tennis practice soon since I am making good progress with my recovery from injury'

When will Nigeria become a country we can all be proud of

The fire that razed the five-storey building on Bread Fruit Street, Lagos Island on Saturday evening 5:00pm was as at this morning, Monday 8:45am, still been put off by Fire fighters.

This morning when I passed the area, water from a fire truck was still been pumped into the debris to put off the fire as smoke was seen coming out from the top of the building

The fire we were told started on the fourth floor and spread rapidly to the fifth floor.

From what I could see, it's as if the fifth floor has collasped into the fourth floor. This would only mean one thing, the structural strenght of the building is now seriously in doubt and the building may be pulled down.

Some people are of the opinion that this was infact the original intent of why the fire was started in the first place as many believe the fire was infact an arson attack.

Whatever the case maybe, the mere fact that the fire razed on for almost 3 days is unacceptable. Its looking like the Nigeria fire service can not fight fire above 3 floors, so any fire attack beyond that is surely to end in total loss.

Evidences abound to prove this theory.

I personally know a lady who lost everything to the fire, she was in tears by the time she called one of my friends to narrate the incident.

Nigerians want to be proud of their country but these are not the kind of actions that would help us get there.

We pay taxes to both the State and Local Government and we expect that to mean something.

Serena win WTA Championship final.

As we earlier predicted, Serana Williams met Maria Sharapova in the WTA Championships in Istanbul.

I remember we said, both players were favourite to win the finals.

But the outcome was one sided than expected as Serena won the Russian in straight sets 6-4 6-3.

Serena Williams has now won 10 of the 12 meetings between two of the biggest names on the women's tour and has now avenged her 2004 defeat to Sharapova in the final of the same tournament.

Serena should try playing in the 'MAN's' circuit, because on a good day, there is no female player that can beat her. She is just that good and getting even better. That the scary thing. Getting better.

Rot in the Nigerian oil sector exposed. Leaked Ribadu report

This is what we have all known for a long time but now its in black and white. There is so much rot and corruption in the Nigerian Oil industry.

Its been reported that, a total of  $183m in signature bonuses paid by oil companies to the federation is missing, this is according to a confidential report seen by the Reuters news agency.

The nation may also have lost $29billion in the last decade in the sweet-heart gas deals with major oil companies, such as Shell and Total, just as crude oil theft is reaching an alarming level of 250,000 barrels

daily at a cost of $29billion a year.

A team headed by the former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, produced the 146-page study based on the Ministry of Petroleum Resources' request. It covers the year 2002 to 2012.

The report said that Ministers of Petroleum Resources between 2008 and 2011 handed out seven discretionary oil licences, but that $183m in signature bonuses was missing from the deals.

107 die in motocycle accident in lagos

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has revealed that at least, LASTMA, 107 people have been killed and 512 others injured in Okada accidents in the last two years in the state.

The report states that, of those that died, 71 were male and 36 female.

442 commercial motocycles were involved in accidents across the state, out of which 271 occurred in 2011 while 171 occured this year. 2011 alone, 47 were killed and 98 others sustained serious injuries and from January 2012 to date, 63 people have been killed while 59 others sustained serious injuries.

It was also reported by the Lagos State Police Command that 22 out of 30 armed robbery incidents between July and September this year were carried out by the use of okada.

 The truth however is, these were just the ones that were report and since Nigeria doesn't have a true statistically record, the injuries and death numbers is much more higher.

Reports coming in has it that, the Governor of Taraba State Danbaba Suntai who was involved in a plane crash is alive contrary to some reports.

The plane which was said to have been piloted by the Governor crashed in Yola today.

The Governor is said to be in a critical condition.

Danbaba Suntai, a pharmacist was elected as Executive Governor of Taraba State in 2007.

Diddy involved in a serious accident in Beverly Hills

Rapper Diddy SUV was involved in a serious accident in Beverly Hills on Wednesday. He was left lying injured on the ground after the crash.

Real name Sean Combs slumped on the floor as he recovered after his chauffeur-driven Cadillac Escalade collided with a Lexus RX vehicle.

Diddy's luxury vehicle was left crushed and undriveable and had to be towed away after the smash at the Beverly Hill in Los Angeles. The windscreen was smashed and the front of the car caved in. The airbags were activated and parts of the vehicle littered the ground.

He was so shaken by the crash that he was seen lying down on the grass beside his vehicle.

Accompanying him was record label boss Andre Hurrell, who helped him to his feet. A second passenger was also seen sprawled on the lawn beside the music mogul.

Despite complaining of unspecified pain, Diddy refused to go in an ambulance and told authorities he would seek his own attention.
