Uruguay 2 Italy 2 - (aet, 2-3 on pens): Buffon saves THREE penalties to earn third spot

Gianluigi Buffon was Italy's hero as his three penalty saves in the shoot-out saw the Azzurri to victory and a third-place finish in the Confederations Cup, at the expense of Uruguay.
The two sides drew 2-2 after 120 minutes with Italy creating the majority of the chances.

Davide Astori put the Italians ahead after 25 minutes before Edinson Cavani levelled the scores after the interval.

Edinson Cavani had a brace in the match for Uruguay.

One of the best keepers in the world, if not the very best.

Bangladesh authorities faked survival story to save the nation's £1bn clothing industry

The picture of Reshma Begum being pulled from the rubble in the aftermath of the collapse of a Bangladesh clothes factory was a potent symbol of hope seen around the world.
The 19-year-old endured 17 days in the wreckage of the eight-storey Rana Plaza building, where 1,129 people were killed in April in the clothing industry's worst disaster, before she was dramatically rescued.

But the apparently miraculous rescue was faked by Bangladeshi authorities as a damage-control exercise to protect the reputation of the nation's lucrative garments industry, according to a former colleague.
The tragedy of losing more than a thousand lives was forgotten by the victory of saving one.
The official story states workers had all but given up hope of finding anyone alive after 17 days but heard her cries seconds before they were due to smash the concrete with heavy machinery, which would have brought the chunks falling down on her.
But the unnamed man claims Miss Begum escaped from the third floor with him on the day the building collapsed.

Your cat could give you TB? Vets warn pets are catching deadly strain found in cattle and could pass it on to humans

Cats could pass on deadly bovine tuberculosis to their owners, according to vets.
Adventurous felines are catching the disease during their exploration of badger setts or by coming into contact with rodents who have done the same.

They can also pick up bovine TB directly from cattle or infected milk.
Now experts says vets should be more aware that domestic cats can carry the disease.
'The real issue with cats with TB is that unless they are feral, they tend to have close contact with humans,' Carl Padgett, former president of the British Veterinary Association, told the Sunday Telegraph.

Can we make ourselves happier?

Can we make ourselves happier? According to studies from all over the globe collated by the World Happiness Database in Rotterdam, we can. But the path to happiness may not be where we are looking for it.
Professor Ruut Veenhoven, Director of the Database and Emeritus professor of social conditions for human happiness at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, says his own study found a slight negative correlation between the number of times people in a study spontaneously mentioned "goals" and their happiness.
"Though it is generally assumed that you need goals to lead a happy life, evidence is mixed. The reason seems to be that unhappy people are more aware of their goals, because they seek to change their life for the better."

But perhaps the most intriguing finding from an array of studies on file at the database is the lack of correlation between seeing meaning in life and being happy.

Obama 'humbled' to visit Mandela's Robben Island jail

US President Barack Obama has toured Robben Island - the jail in which Nelson Mandela was kept for 18 years.
He said he and his family were "deeply humbled" to visit the prison once inhabited by Mr Mandela - who remains critically ill in hospital.
Mr Obama went on to give a speech at the University of Cape Town and launch a multi-billion-dollar electricity initiative.

The US leader did not visit Mr Mandela, but met the Mandela family in private.

Now this is the way to hold a woman's conference: Hundreds turn out to discuss women in society... but not a single member of the audience is female

This image show attendees at a conference in Saudi Arabia on the topic ‘women in society’ – and not a single one is female.
The conference, reportedly held at the University of Qassim last year, was attended by representatives from 15 nations, apparently all men.
The seats in the hall are filled with men in traditional Arab dress apart from one wearing a blue chequered shirt.
Segregation between men and women in the oil rich country is widespread due to the ultra-conservative Wahhabi sharia law.
Restrictions mean they are not allowed to drive, they must use separate entrances at banks and offices, and a plan to build a city for female workers only has been announced.

Indian journalist filed report from a flooded disaster area sitting on another man's shoulders and gets fired. Next time stay in the water, bros.

The journalist who outraged India when he sat on a flood victim's soldiers to film a televised report from a disaster zone has been fired from his job.
Nishant Chaturvedi, channel head at News Express, said reporter Narayan Pargaien was 'inhuman' for sitting on the man while reporting from inundated Uttarakhand state.
'You cannot ride on someone's back for a story. We terminated him on Tuesday,' said Mr Chaturvedi.

The network boss told Australia's Herald Sun that the channel had chosen not to broadcast the 'highly distasteful' clip and was trying to find out how it was leaked.
'He sent the clip to us. We were shocked to see him sitting on the poor man. You have to be a part of the people and not ride on them,' he said.

The reporter, Mr Pargaien, had been reporting on devastating flash floods in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhan when he decided to film the unorthodox report.

Return of the revolution? Egyptians protest again but this time against new 'hated' president

They said they wanted him, now they don't want him again. What exactly do they really want? Life!!!
Thousands of opponents and supporters of Egypt's Islamist president have turned out in their masses for a nationwide protest which many fear could turn deadly.
Waving Egyptian flags, crowds descended on Tahrir Square in the heart of Cairo, one of a number of sites in the capital and around the country, where rallies have been organised.
Chants of 'erhal' or 'leave!,' have rang out in the square, birthplace of the 2011 uprising that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak.

Remember him, "The Iron Sheik," WWW Wrestling

Hossein Khorow Ali Vaziri, is 73, and is in pain. He badly needs knee surgery that he can't afford, but if the truth is to be told, every joint on his body could use fixing.
A lifetime in wrestling, amateur and professional, will do that to a man.
So Vaziri, better known as the evil pro wrestler, "The Iron Sheik," would on this day rather sit in his chair and let the hours pass by than talk about his life.
He aches all over, he's not making a lot of money and he wants to be left alone.
"Bubba, please, I will talk to you and answer all of your questions," he says, pleadingly. "But let's do it another time. Now is not good."

GOD ALWAYS HEARS

Remember, God loves you not because of who you are, what you do or what you will ever do but because of Who He Is. So when you think like talking to Him, just do.

Eating two portions of oily fish could protect women against breast cancer

A major review of studies found adding this amount of fish to the diet cuts the breast cancer risk by up to 14 per cent.
Fish supplies omega-3 fatty acids which are essential for brain development and also thought to reduce inflammation of the brain, cardiovascular system and other cells.

But surveys suggest nine out of 10 children and two-thirds of adults in Britain never bother to eat it.
The best dietary source of omega-3 fatty acids is oily fish because the human body cannot produce them.

We need to eat more fish, oily fish. Period.

Misplaced priority: You can increase her breasts but can't help with his feet. NHS pay for this woman's 36DD breasts but refuse to pay £24,000 for boy to walk.

They are two cases which have been slammed as a damning indictment of the twisted priorities of the NHS.
A toddler has been refused a crucial operation which could help him walk because it is not deemed worthy of funding by NHS bureaucrats.

But just a few miles from where little Oliver Dockerty, two, could be given the gift of mobility, an NHS hospital performed a breast enlargement operation for an aspiring glamour model because it was considered necessary for health reasons.
The stark contrast between the way Josie Cunningham and Oliver Dockerty, who has cerebral palsy, have been treated caused outrage today.

Blackberry is still losing money, I don't understand, with everyone using this phone?

BlackBerry's attempt to revive its fortunes with a new operating system appears to have failed.
The price of shares in the company that makes the devices has plunged after it posted a loss in the first quarter of this financial year.

Research In Motion also warned of future losses despite releasing its make-or-break new smartphones.
The company announced that it will no longer make new versions of its slow-selling tablet device, The Playbook.
RIM said it sold 6.8 million phones overall in the first quarter compared to 7.8 million last year.
Mike Walkley, an analyst with Canaccoord Genuity, said it's clear the new operating system has not turned the company around.

Make A Call While Driving And Go To Jail, FRSC Warns

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has announced a newly adopted strategy that would ensure that any person caught using the mobile phone while driving, would no longer be fined but immediately taken to court and jailed.
Corp Marshal, FRSC, Mr. Osita Chidoka said other offences like speed driving, dangerous overtaking and overloading would equally attract court action instead of the usual fines.

The new vogue: Bikini wax, spray tan, blow dry... The women who have makeovers to GIVE BIRTH

There's a photo that takes pride of place on Kate Harrison's living room wall. It shows her looking stunning - creamy highlights in her hair, French-manicured nails, a glowing tan, perfectly arched eyebrows and a radiant smile.
But it's not a wedding portrait and it wasn't taken on holiday.
Instead, it was snapped just seconds after she gave birth to her younger son, William, whom she proudly cradles in her arms. He is so new you can see he's not even been cleaned up by the midwives.

Postman who repeatedly urinated on front doorstep is caught out while relieving himself after couple's wait in hiding for him to strike again – another genius (Fool)

A postman is facing disciplinary action for repeatedly urinating on a couple's doorstep while on his daily round.
The delivery worker regularly left a puddle outside the home of Luke Osborne, 27, and partner Keyleigh Rawlings, 23, making them believe their front door was being targeted by drunks.
After months of attacks the couple were left so bemused they decided to hide in the hallway so they could find out who was weeing on their steps.

Mr Osborne waited for his mail to drop one morning then quietly opened the front door - to find the brazen Royal Mail worker relieving himself.
He has now complained to post office bosses who said the culprit would face 'internal disciplinary measures'.

Robbers Raid Hotel For Dollars

Unidentified gunmen on Monday struck at a popular hotel in Ajao Estate, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, and carted away millions of naira and dollars belonging to the management and lodgers in the hotel.

The robbers struck at May Hotel located at 22, Kaara Street, Ajao Estate at about 2.00 am with sophisticated weapons.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the operation lasted more than two hours and the victims were lodgers in the hotel who had just returned to the country as well as  foreigners.

It was learnt that the robbers only stole money in the local and foreign currencies from the victims while their belongings were not touched.

18-year-old scoops UK's biggest win for teenager. £22m (N 5.5Billion) Good god almighty

A BRITISH boy of 18 has scooped £22million on the EuroMillions lottery, it was reported last night.

It is believed to be the UK’s biggest win by a teen.
Friends of the lucky lad told how he has hardly spent any on himself — but has given huge sums away since he scooped the jackpot.

One pal said: “He doesn’t need the money, he doesn’t really spend any. He’s a good lad. He’s given a lot to charity.”
His one splurge was jetting off to a £10,000-a-night hotel room while he considered what to do with the money.

Lagos belongs to the Tinubus – Na today? Abeg tell me something new.

This new development portends great danger for our democracy and indeed Lagos integrity. We are thus calling on the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, not to sit on the fence at this auspicious time. Fashola must rise up and be counted now. He must exhibit control in governance especially when Tinubu’s interest conflicts with the public interest. He must see to it that the process leading to the emergence of a market leader and any other leadership in the state is transparent, liberal and credible.”
Lagos State Chapter of the PDP

Life has some pleasantly ironic moments. Before the Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party woke up to the news that the former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, was about to install his daughter as the Iyaloja of Lagos, who could have thought the party would ever understand –or even acknowledge- that anything portends “great danger” to Nigerian democracy? Or, that the party would even canvass a process that is “transparent, liberal and credible?” These are surely interesting times we live in.

Interesting indeed...

Nelson Mandela is on life support and 'family has the option to switch off'.

In South Africa's Eastern Cape province, where Mandela grew up, a traditional leader said the time was near for Mandela, who is also known by his clan name, Madiba.
'I am of the view that if Madiba is no longer enjoying life, and is on life support systems, and is not appreciating what is happening around him, I think the good Lord should take the decision to put him out of his suffering,' said the tribal chief, Phathekile Holomisa.

'I did speak to two of his family members, and of course, they are in a lot of pain, and wish that a miracle might happen, that he recovers again, and he becomes his old self again,' he said.
'But at the same time they are aware there is a limit to what miracles you can have.'

A South African newspaper has also reported the anti-Apartheid icon is on life support, citing numerous sources close to the family.

Madiba is sadly but gradually leaving us, but no matter what happens, we will always love him and remember his bravery and sacrifice. Josephebongie blog salutes one of the greatest Africans that has ever lived. Always loving you, Madiba. Tears fills my eyes.

Brazil defeat Uruguay 2 - 1 to book final in Confederation Cup.

Paulinho popped up with a late winner as Brazill progressed to the Confederations Cup final with a hard-earned 2-1 victory over a gritty Uruguay side on Wednesday night.

An underwhelming game had appeared to be heading for extra time, with Edinson Cavani having cancelled out Fred's opener for the home side.

However, Paulinho nodded home a Neymar corner with just four minutes of normal time remaining to send the Belo Horizonte crowd into ecstasy, and leave Uruguay heartbroken.

Luiz's stupidity really should have resulted in Uruguay taking the lead, but Forlan squandered the opportunity to score against the country in which he plies his trade, the Internacional attacker seeing his low spot kick turned around the post by Julio Cesar.

Great match. Well deserved victory for Brazil. Brazil now awaits the winner between world and European Champion Spain and Italy tomorrow.

US Supreme Court strikes down in part the federal Defense of Marriage Act. DOMA. Gay couples now have same rights.

While supporters of marriage equality celebrated the Supreme Court's historic decision on gay marriage Wednesday, religious conservatives slammed the rulings and vowed to continue their fight against same-sex unions.
Today is a tragic day for marriage and our nation," Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said in a joint statement representing U.S. bishops. "The Supreme Court has dealt a profound injustice to the American people by striking down in part the federal Defense of Marriage Act. The Court got it wrong."

BREAKING NEWS: Wimbledon. Federer crashes out . Joins Nadal, Sharapova and Tsonga

Roger Federer's dream of winning a record eighth Wimbledon title this fortnight was shattered tonight as the defending champion lost to world number 116 Sergiy Stakhovsky on Centre Court.
Having seen Rafael Nadal bow out of the tournament, Federer seemed to have an easy route to the semi-finals, but Ukrainian Stakhovsky stunned the Swiss with a 6-7 (5/7) 7-6 (7/5) 7-5 7-6 (7/5) win in the second round today.

Federer's earliest exit at Wimbledon for 11 years comes as a huge boost for Britain's Andy Murray, who earlier saw his potential quarter-final opponent Jo-Wilfried Tsonga pull out through injury.

I doubt if he will ever win another grand slam.

Why are the Mighty fallen: Wipeout at Wimbledon as Top seeds fall. Sharapova and Tsonga OUT CRASHING.

Former Wimbledon champion and third seed Maria Sharapova slid to a shock second-round exit today after suffering a number of falls on the court which she described as 'dangerous'.
The Russian, who won the grasscourt grand slam in 2004 as a 17-year-old, slipped over a number of times during the match and received lengthy treatment after a nasty fall in the seventh game of the second set.

She was beaten 6-3 6-4 by Portuguese qualifier Michelle Larcher de Brito.
Even before the tumble, which was very similar to the one that forced second seed Victoria Azarenka to withdraw with a knee injury, Sharapova was outplayed by the world number 131 who sealed victory on her fifth match point when her opponent netted a forehand.

Sharapova's exit came hours after the withdrawal of second seed Azarenka, who called for Wimbledon officials to investigate why the courts were so slippery after several players suffered falls.

Forbes' Celebrity 100: Oprah, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga lead the women claiming SIX of top 10 spots.

Oprah Winfrey is back in her throne on top of Forbes' list of the world's most powerful celebrities, after a two-year stint in the runner-up seat.
The billionaire American talk-show host, 59, knocked singer Jennifer Lopez off the spot and into number 12, but still shares the top ten winners' enclosure arena with a multitude of women.

There are six girls in the plum positions - and the only man to make it into the top five is film director Steven Spielberg, who, coming third, is sandwiched between Lady Gaga in second and Beyonce in fourth.

Singer and actress Madonna comes fifth and Taylor Swift makes her top 10 debut at number six in the annual Top 100 compiled by the financial magazine, which is based on income over a 12-month period and fame, as defined by a media presence across all platforms, as well as social media power.
