Ebola Is Killing People In Neighboring Countries, Hope Nigeria Is Doing Something About It

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), out of the 759 cases of the Ebola Virus reported in Guinea, Liberia & Sierra Leone, 400 people have died.

These statistics were compiled from March, when the outbreak started, to June 30th, CNN reports.

According to reports, the virus can kill up to 90% of those infected.

Speaking about the outbreak, Peter Piot, the scientist credited with making the first discovery of the Ebola virus in the 1970s, said:

“One, [this is] the first time in West Africa that we have such an outbreak. Secondly, it is the first time that three countries are involved. And thirdly it’s the first time that we have outbreaks in capitals, in capital cities.”

African ministers and health experts are said to be meeting in Ghana to discuss strategies on how to stop the virus from spreading.

Yet Mr. Peter Piot has said Ebola can be contained with just simple steps. Hope our government and the necessary agencies know about these steps. It’s best to be prepared even when we pray it doesn’t come into Nigeria.

Disable Man Dumped In Refuse Heap to Die Quickly

In a bit to expedite the death of a disable man, identified as Danjuma, his relative were alleged to have dumped him on a refuse heap.

Danjuma the only child of his late mother was allegedly dumped by his relatives in a refuse heap in a bit for him to die quickly.

Danjuma’s late mother, a former staff of the defunct Nigerian Telecommunication Company (NITEL), was said to have left money for his upkeep, but Danjuma’s family claims the money has been spent on other things, a source said.

Journalist whose attention were drawn to the incident had to climb the high refuse heap to talk to Danjuma. Danjuma who demanded a plate of rice before he could talk, later revealed that he was dumped there by his uncle. The wheel chair used by Danjuma was at the refuse heap.

Bridge Collapse In Brazil Killing Two And Trapping Many

At least two people were killed and 19 injured yesterday after an overpass built as part of Brazil's World Cup improvement works collapsed onto a busy road.

Authorities in Belo Horizonte, south-east Brazil, had rushed to get the road system ready for the start of the competition.

According to firefighters, the viaduct over the Pedro I avenue - close to the Mineirao football stadium - fell on top of a car, two trucks and a bus.

The driver of the bus has been confirmed as among the dead.

Obasanjo To Lose National Anthem

Members of the National Conference on Thursday 3 July unanimously adopted a proposal that Nigeria revert to her old National Anthem, “Which is more credible symbol of unity, peace and prosperity.”

Instantly, delegates stood and in unison sang the first stanza of the old National Anthem which if adopted eventually, would become the new anthem.

The old anthem: “Nigeria we hail thee… our own dear native land; though tribe and tongue may differ, in brotherhood we stand’, was changed to the present one: ‘Arise o compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey…” during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1978.

Many Nigerians have expressed preference for the old anthem, as a better expression of the Nigerian spirit.

The Conference also resolved that henceforth, the office of the President of Nigeria shall rotate between the North and South and revolve among the geo-political zones.

It was also agreed that the office of the state governors shall be rotated among the three senatorial districts of each state while that of the local government chairmen shall to be rotated within the local government areas

Arisekola-Alao Widow Dies in Car Crash Exactly 2 Weeks After His Death

Exactly two weeks after the death of Aare Musulumi of Yoruba Land, Abdul-Azeez Arisekola-Alao, his eldest wife, Jeliat has passed on.

Jeliat died in an auto crash at Eyekorin, near Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday evening. She was aged 62.

The late billionaire, Arisekola-Alao died in his London home on the day he was due back in Nigeria. He was said to have died of heart-related disease in his sleep in after taking his breakfast and drugs.

The late wife was seen by neighbours in Ibadan on Monday afternoon, just before she embarked on the fatal journey.

She is survived by two children she had for the Muslim leader. She was buried in her residence in Apata area of Ibadan on Wednesday according to Muslim rule.

The late Jelilat Arisekola-Alao was described as a devout Muslim and a generous neighbor by both friends and family.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.

French Veil Ban is Upheld by European Court

A case brought by a 24-year old French woman, simply known as SAS, who argued that the ban on wearing the Muslim full-face veil – the niqab violated her freedom of religion and expression was turn down by the European Court of Human Rights as the court upheld the ban by France.

France law says nobody can wear in public space clothing intended to conceal the face. A penalty of 150-euro fine (£120; $205) was placed for doing so. The law came into effect in 2010 under former President Nicolas Sarkozy.

The court ruled that the ban “was not expressly based on the religious connotation of the clothing in question but solely on the fact that it concealed the face.”

The court statement said the ruling also “took into accounts the state’s submission that the face played a significant role in the social interaction.

Fani-Kayode is looking forward to seeing APC in court

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode on Tuesday, said he stood by his comments about the All Progressives Congress and some of its leaders, nothing that he looked forward to meeting the party in court.

The Former Minister of Aviation, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP, had during an interview he granted Channels TV, on Monday, accused some APC leaders of being sympathetic towards the Boka Haram sect.

APC has threatened to sue Fani-Kayode if he did not retract the comments and apologise to the party.

Fani-Kayode in a statement on Tuesday said he would never apologise to the APC or its spokeperson, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for saying “the truth.”

Does Nigeria have an extradition treaty with The Netherlands?

I asked the above question because a federal high court siting in Abuja struck out an application by the federal government seeking to extradite a Nigerian, Kingsley Edegbe to The Netherlands to stand trial for allegations of human trafficking.

The application we were told was brought by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, seeking the court’s approval for the extradition following a request by the Dutch Government. The trial Judge, Justice Ahmed Ramat Mohammed has in his ruling delivered Tuesday, held that the application is incompetent, and that the court lacks the jurisdiction to entertain it.

“The court has not been shown any extradition treaty between Nigeria and the Netherlands upon which the application sought could have been granted. The reliance on the United Nation’s convention against transnational organised crime is not an extradition treaty act as envisaged by section 1 of the extradition act of Nigeria” the judge stated.

At least according to Pollstar, Queen B played 95 shows and earned enough to take No. 1 position.

Forbes just released their annual list of World’s Most Powerful Celebrities for the year and Queen Beyonce sits atop. She was helped to the number 1 post by her “Mrs Carter” World Tour which raked in an average of $2.5 M per city.

She also released her self-named fifth studio album which was a huge commercial success.

Sad day in Israel as Abducted Israeli teens found dead near Hebron

Three Israeli teenagers who were abducted earlier this month in the West Bank have been found dead.

An Israeli military spokesman said their bodies were found in a pit near the town of Halhul, north of Hebron.

Naftali Frenkel and Gilad Shaar, both aged 16, and 19-year-old Eyal Yifrach were last seen at a junction near Hebron as they hitchhiked home.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Hamas was responsible, a claim the Palestinian militant group has denied.

Oscar Pistorius had no mental disorder

Oscar Pistorious did not have a mental disorder when he killed his girlfriend, a psychological reports has said.

Oscar’s trial resumed today with that conclusion meaning, the Olympic athlete was criminally responsible for his actions when he shot and killed his girlfriend on February 14.

The need for the evaluation had come up after his defence team said, Mr Pistorius was suffering from an anxiety disorder.

Pistorius denied deliberately killing Reeva Steenkamp. He said he shot her accidentally in a state of panic after mistaking her for an intruder. The prosecution is saying he deliberately killed Ms Steenkamp following an argument.

Boko Haram Serves Notice of Attack To Confab Delegate

Punch reports that a member of the National Conference has just confessed to receiving a threat message from the terrorist group and it caused a scare at the confab on Monday.

Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) told the conference that he received a message on his telephone threatening an “attack bigger than Nyanya blast” and sought the permission of the Chairman of the confab, Justice Idris Kutigi (rtd), to read the message.
