Police shut down Abuja market over Boko Haram threat

Yesterday three major markets in Abuja were shut by the police following intelligence reports that they might be bombed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

News made the rounds after the insurgents struck again in two villages near Chibok, the community in Borno State, where over 200 schoolgirls were kidnapped since April 14 and are still been held by the insurgents.

The affected markets were in Wuse, Utako and Garki. Police used electronic scanners for almost three hours to comb these places but nothing suspicious was found.

Now this is the way to become proactive and not reactive. This is what we have been expecting from the police, this is the way to treat threats. Yes there would be a few inconveniences but saving lives is the primary responsibility of the police and those inconveniences will have to be put aside by the populace for the police to save lives.

Intelligence report is the key to stopping these attacks before they happen. The police should however keep monitoring these locations as these “fools” may still want to come back to do harm.

I commend the police for this initiative. Well done.
