Governor of Akwa Ibom, AKPABIO to receive N5m monthly and N100M per annual for medical care after leaving office for life – Controversial Pension Bill 2014. CRAZY!

The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly on Monday passed former Governor and Deputy Governor’s Pension Bill 2014 into law.

The executive bill, which had earlier passed the first and second reading, was presented for deliberations at committee of the whole at plenary.

The bill seeks a pension for life at a rate equivalent to the salary of the incumbent governor to a former governor and deputy.

The law also provides for a former governor   a sum not exceeding N5 million per month to employ domestic staff while the deputy gets N2.5 million for the same purpose.

A former governor will also be entitled to free medical services for himself his spouse at a sum not exceeding N100 million per annum and N50 million for a former deputy governor.

The bill also seeks to provide for a former governor a befitting accommodation not below a 5- bed room maisonette in either Abuja or Akwa Ibom.

Nokia endorses Nosa

Chocolate City’s NOSA is collaborating with global mobile phone company Nokia for the production of his latest project.

The project titled “Love Is Calling” is a song written by NOSA and it illustrates love from a caller to a loved one, using mobile technology to drive home the point.

NOSA, with his unique pattern of singing, cleverly sampled Nokia’s trademark tune in the chorus, which works out brilliantly for the song.

Infusing the signature Nokia tune has aroused the brand’s interest in the song, and Nokia will be collaborating with the artiste to shoot the video. The video and song will hit airwaves soon.

NOSA’s collaboration with Nokia is coming on the heels of his recent licensing deal with Unilever and the Close-Up brand, and his triple award haul at the YADA Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Music Video, Song of The Year and Artiste of The Year.

Couples beat son, 12 to death and hide corpse under the bed

P.M. NEWS this morning reported that a 12 year old boy was beaten to death because he was complaining of hunger.

According to a police report, Mr. Paul Obiefule and his wife allegedly beat the 12 year-old boy, Onyedikachi Mbanozo, to death at their home at 22, Omitola Street, Agege, Lagos.

The little boy was living with them when the incident happened at about 2.30p.m. on the eve of Children’s Day.

NBA PLAYOFF: Pacers beat Heat 93-90 to force a Game 6

The Indiana Pacers staved off elimination and stayed alive in the Eastern Conference finals by playing their best ball in the second half on Wednesday. The beat the Miami Heat 93-90.

The Heat, a win away from becoming the fourth team in NBA history to reach their Finals in four consecutive seasons, essentially played the entire second and third quarters without LeBron James, who battled foul trouble throughout and finished with a career playoff-low seven points on 2-of-10 shooting.

The series shifts back to South Beach for Games 6 on Friday.

Tiger Woods will miss the U.S. Open at Pinehurst

Some bad news for golf fans, even though most suspected this would be the case, as Tiger Woods announced he will not be at the U.S. Open as he continues to recover from back surgery.

Woods made it official on his website Wednesday, citing continued health issues and recovery from the back surgery he underwent on March 31.

"Unfortunately, I won't be there because I'm not yet physically able to play competitive golf," Woods said. "I'd like to convey my regrets to the USGA leadership, the volunteers and the fans that I won't be at Pinehurst. The U.S. Open is very important to me, and I know it's going to be a great week. Despite missing the first two majors, and several other important tournaments, I remain very optimistic about this year and my future."

Woods, who turns 39 in December, will miss a second straight major championship for the third time in his career after having to pull out of the Masters for the same back issues

SuperSport loses reporter, former Kaizer Chiefs star Isaac Ramaitsane “shakes” Kungwane aged 43

Former Kaizer Chiefs star Isaac RAmaitsane “shakes” Kungwane has died aged 43. Supersport, where Kungwane was a football analyst announced his death Wednesday.

The news was confirmed in a statement released by SuperSport, where Kungwane was a presenter, via their Twitter account.
“(sic) It is with great sadness that SuperSport confirms the death of former football star-turned-TV presenter Isaac Kungwane. RIP Shakes,” read the tweet.

“Shakes brought vitality, knowledge and understanding to his role at Supersport. He was adorned by everyone. This is a sad day for football lovers who will recall shakes for his wizardrt on the ball”

Kungwane was also capped by Bafana Bafana and retired in 2002, Supersport said.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

May his soul rest in perfect peace.

FRENCH OPEN: Serena Williams knocked out of French Open in second round, Venus also

Defending champion Serena Williams followed sister Venus out of the French Open on a dramatic fourth day.

Serena lost 6-2 6-2 to Spain's Garbine Muguruza after Venus had been beaten 2-6 6-3 6-4 by Slovakian Anna Schmiedlova at Roland Garros.

It is the first time in her career that Serena has failed to reach the second week of a Grand Slam as the top seed.

It means a projected third-round clash between the Williams sisters will now feature Muguruza and Schmiedlova.

Muguruza, 20, took full advantage of a very out-of-sorts Williams on a cool and breezy Court Suzanne Lenglen.

Daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis went completely topless for a stroll in New York City on Tuesday in a bid to highlight her disagreement with Instagram’s policy against female nudity.

Using hashtag #FreeTheNipple, Scout captioned one shot: 'Legal in NYC but not on @instagram,' while on another, she wrote 'What @instagram won't let you see.' 

In one shot, Scout is brazenly striding along a Manhattan street wearing just a floral skirt and flat shoes with a handbag worn over one arm. 

In another, she is seen shopping at a market stall for fresh flowers. 

Apple buys Beats for $3bn making Dr. Dre first hip hop billionaire.

Apple has confirmed it is buying Beats Electronics, the headphone and music streaming service set up by rapper Dr. Dre and recording impresario Jimmy Iovine.

The $3bn acquisition by far the most expensive in Apple's 38-year history, and comes three weeks after the deal was first rumoured - although the initial price was believed to be $3.2bn.

Apple Boss Tim Cook revealed the deal, saying 'We have known these guys forever, we've dated, we've gone steady and now we are getting married.'

Malcolm Glazer dies: Manchester United owner passes away at 86

Manchester United have confirmed the death of Malcolm Glazer – nine years after the American billionaire’s controversial debt-laden takeover of the club.

The 85-year-old, who had endured a series of health problems since suffering a stroke in 2006, passed away on Wednesday, with his death being announced on the website of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Glazer family’s NFL franchise.

Following the confirmation of Glazer’s death by the Buccaneers, United issued a brief communication saying: “the thoughts of everyone at United are with the family tonight.”

Nigeria began their World Cup preparations with a 2-2 draw with Scotland at Craven Cottage.

The build-up to the game was overshadowed by rumours of investigations into match-fixing, but no concrete details had come to light. Nigeria were in London before they left the country to begin their preparations for the World Cup, and Scotland are rebuilding for their European Championship campaign.

Scotland took the lead in the match when a quick corner came to James Morrison, who drove a low shot into the box for Charlie Mulgrew to cleverly flick over the goalkeeper.

A Phenomenal Woman: Tribute to Renown Poet and Author Dr. Maya Angelou by Tyler Perry

There have only been a handful of people in my life who have moved me, inspired me, encouraged me, and helped mold the man I am today. One of those people would be Dr. Maya Angelou. She was a woman I called "friend".

Her words and her spirit are too powerful to leave this earth with her passing. Her legacy and poems will take wings, forever landing at the foundation of anything that betters humanity. Dr. Maya Angelou will live on in all of us who called her a phenomenal woman, phenomenally.

She is loved and will be missed.

Chairman of the going National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi buries wife

The wife of the Chairman of the ongoing National Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi who died in the early hours of this morning has been buried.

The confab which was adjourned less than an hour sitting on Wednesday following her death will resume on Monday, 2 June with delegates continuing the debates on the reports of their various committees.

Boko Haram: MTN and Forensic expert to testify against Senator Mohammed Ndume

The path has been cleared for the Federal Government to call two additional witnesses against Senator Aliyu Ndume, who is facing charges of sponsoring the violent Islamic fundamentalist sect, Boko Haram.

The proposed witnesses, according to the Federal Government, are the MTN and a forensic expert. Three prosecution witnesses had already testified in the case.

Four more girls escape from Boko Haram Camp or were they released?

Four girls out of the 168 students of Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, that were abducted by Boko Haram in April, have escaped.

The Chairman, Chibok Local Government Area, Mr. Bana Lawan, announced this on Tuesday in Abuja at a one-day stakeholders meeting for validation of draft humanitarian response plan for the abducted girls. The meeting was organised by the National Emergency Management Agency.

Black American Poet, Maya Angelou, who inspired millions of Americans with her moving memoirs and work of fiction is dead at 86.

Kim Kardashian changes name to Mrs. West on Instagram and Twitter

Kim Kardashian who just got married over the weekend in Florence, Italy has changed her name both on her Twitter and Instagram handles to that of her new husband Kanye West’s surname.

The 33-year-old transformed into Kim Kardashian West on Wednesday on the social media sites while still in Ireland on her honeymoon.
