Mend threatens to start killing Muslims from May 31

As the Federal Government battles to find solutions to the Boko Haram menace in the northern part of the country, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) on Sunday threatened to avenge the killings of Christians by Boko Haram.

MEND spokesperson Jomo Gbomo said the group which had since its formation been concerned with the Niger Delta question, would begin from May 31, 2013 to embark on a crusade to save Christianity in Nigeria from annihilation.

The bombing of mosque, hajj camps, Islamic institutions, large congregation in Islamic evens and assassination of clerics that propagate doctrines of hate, will form the core mission of this crusade code-name 'Operation Barbarossa' "Gbomo said

He explained that MEND may only stop "Operation Barbarossa" if the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Catholic Church and Henry Okah "one of the few leaders in the Niger Delta region it respects for his integrity intervened.

MEND said it had no problems with Boko Haram's attacks on security agencies including the prisons, for their role in extra-judicial killings, torture, deceit and corruption.

It added that its campaign against the activities of Boko Haram would not in any way interfere with the ongoing "Hurricane Exodus" which on April 13th, at about 1am swept through the Ewellesuo community, Nembe, Bayelsa State, leading to the destruction of an oil well belonging to Shell Petroleum.

Meanwhile, the Bauchi state Governor Isa Yuguda has urged the Federal government to go ahead with the proposed amnesty plan for members of Boko Haram saying that members of the 'real' sect would accept the government's gesture

Yuguda told journalists in Lagos on Sunday that the group which rejected the proposed government amnesty was the "criminal and political" Boko Haram used by some politicians to perpetrate evil.

He said, "The criminal Boko Haram faction is benefiting from their criminal activities, which is why they have rejected amnesty. Some of them are perpetrating their evils on behalf of politicians.

"I believe the real Boko Haram may have genuine agitations, like joblessness. But once they accept the amnesty, we will face and fight the criminal ones.
