Usain
Bolt delivered when it mattered most, at the IAAF 100m World
Championship final in Moscow.
The
world record holder defied torrential rain to win the world 100
metres gold in 9.77 seconds.
This
was not the Bolt of Beijing or Berlin, when he glided almost
effortlessly over the track to world record times. Here, he was the
fifth fastest out of the blocks, equal with silver medallist Justin
Gatlin, and he did not pass the American until the last 40m.
Tension
was etched over his face and in his taught upper body as that long
stride took him clear and to the title that he lost to training
partner Yohan Blake in 2011 after a false start.
‘I
came with one aim — to regain my title — and I did that so it’s
good,’ said Bolt, 26. ‘When I am in good shape I know what I can
do.
This
guy is good. He has certainly given IAAF the much needed relief it
was begging for from all the drug controversies. Great race.
