Ebola Virus: Has A Cure Being Found – Bitter Kola?

It extract can be eating or rubbed into the skin

I first heard this news some days ago while driving on a program hosted by Gloria (Miss giving you what you want) on Inspirational Fm, Lagos.

She had said, Kolanut, specifically Bitter Kola has been known to slow down the multiplication of the virus and hence advice those suffering from it to eat lots of biter kola, she even went on to advice the non-sufferers to load up on Kola to serve as a barrier or body defense to it.

Well, if you know Gloria, a lot of the things she says are just gist.

It has now been confirmed. Yes Garcinia Kola aka Bitter Kola compound has been shown to halt multiplication of the virus in the laboratory.
It is hoped that if repeated in humans, this would give the body a chance to fight off the virus.

They used a compound from Garcinia Kola, a plant commonly eaten in West Africa. Compounds from the plant have also proved effective against some strains of flu.
If the anti-Ebola compound proves successful in animal and human trials, it will be the first medicine to successful treat the virus that causes Ebola Haemorhagic fever – an often-fatal condition.

The discovery was by a doctor, Dr. Maurice Iwu.

The research took 10 years and the plant had always been used by traditional native healers who have used the plant for the treatment of infectious diseases for centuries.
''This is a very exciting discovery.” Said Dr. Iwu, who himself come originally from a family of traditional healers.

"The same forest that yields the dreaded Ebola virus could be a source of the cure."

The discovery was announced at the 16th International Botanical Congress in St Louis in the US.
.......
Bitter Kola -this is great news.
