The
American doctor infected with the Ebola virus in Africa has finally
been flown to the States. The plane which was specially equipped carrying the doctor arrived at a military base in Atlanta.
The doctor was then whisked away to one of the most sophisticated isolation
units in the country, officials say.
This
marks the first time anyone infected with Ebola which is considered
one of the world's deadliest diseases, have been brought into the
United States.
A
second American aid worker infected with the virus was expected to
arrive at Emory within a couple of days. U.S. Officials are confident
the patients can be treated without putting the public in danger.
The
patient is Dr, Kent Brantly, who worked for the charity group, U.S - Based Samaritan's Pulse missionary group, it was later confirmed.
Dr.
Jay Varkey, an infectious disease specialist at Emory who will be
involved in Brantly's care, said the hospital's isolation unit is
well-equipped to handle patients with diseases that are even more
infectious than Ebola.
The
unit was used for treating at least one SARS patient in 2005. Unlike
Ebola, SARS — like the flu — is an airborne virus and can spread
easily when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Health experts say
a specialized isolation unit is not needed for treating an Ebola
patient. Standard rigorous infection control measures should work at
any hospital.
"Ebola
is only transmitted through blood and bodily fluids," he said.
"Unlike the flu, like influenza, which we deal with every
winter, Ebola cannot be spread through the air."
….......
This
is one of the reasons why America is considered the greatest nation
in the world. Only the United States have the political will to pull
off something off this nature. And its not because they have the
infrastructure but because of their ''Leave No Man Behind'' policy.
The
same policy the nation of Israel hold dear, any wonder why they both often stand up for each other?
Donald
Trump should know that, this is perhaps one of the reasons why he may
never be able to rule America as president. His ranting that Ebola victims were
been allowed to come back home as a bad thing, will not be forgiven so easily by many who see
it as a political move rather than a rational one.
SARS as we all know, including him I hope, as I know he is widely read, was far more contagious than Ebola and yet the United States was able to contain it, so why all the noise about Ebola or was it because it was coming from Africa? Nah! it was politics.
The
policy of ''Leave No Man Behind'' wasn't initiated by Obama
Administration but by Administrations before him and Obama is only following the policy laid down.
The policy may have been a military one but it is highly respected in America generally.
It
was based on this policy that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was exchanged with the Taliban for five Taliban captives held by the U.S for his safe return home in
may.
I would not be surprise if these doctors eventually make it in the U.S, confirming American's status as the greatest country in the World. Magic Johnson is still alive after having declared he had Aids at a time when there was hardly any concoction of drugs to help suffers of the disease.
America may just again pull another miracle with these two. Don't count them out just yet.
