Nigerian Businesses Still In Lock And Key In Ghana

Businesses owned by foreign nationals, majorly Nigerians are still in locked down by Ghanaian traders despite a police order requesting the re-opening of the shops.

The closure of the shops we hear is been perpetrated by Ghanaian traders acting under the umbrella of Ghanaian Union of Trade Associations (GUTA), has resulted in the closure of petty businesses owned by foreigners, with Nigerian traders being the most affected in the current rift.

The shops have remained closed because GUTA have remained adamant that their claims are legitimate and are backed up by an act in the 2013 constitution.

GUTA is acting against the governments perceived slackness in dealing with concerns with the implementation of a law which bars foreigners from engaging in petty trading.

Even with the police ordering members of GUTA to reopen the shops, the shops have remained closed due largely to the counter argument by GUTA, citing the Ghana Investment Promotion Act 865 2013, that act explicitly bars them (foreigners) from establishing businesses in Ghana.
.......
But Ghanians have businesses in Nigeria and no one is disturbing them. The real truth is, Nigerians are doing much better than the Ghanians and they are jealous. Simple.

The Governments of both Ghana and Nigeria should ensure this whole thing is resolved so that businesses will not suffer too much, especially for the innocent Nigerian traders
