neighborhood watch

the newest addition to lagos sign post

Don't adjust your eyes, it's Lagos alright. Infact, its Ajose Adeogun street in Victoria Island.

These signs began to pop all over the Island since last week friday, and it simple means what it says. Okadas have been banned on the Island.

The restriction of okada is not only limited to okada drivers alone, even dispatch riders are not left out and ofcourse, Tricycles AKA Keke Marwa.

This has also spread to other parts of Lagos, including the Mainland, as Okadas have also been banned in Suru-lere Area, Ajigbo, Mushin to name a few.

REASON

We are told that the Lagos State Government said, it was because the wards for Okadas at IGBOBI  is filled up and so is the same with some of the State owned hospitals. (too many accidents victims caused by Okadas)

CAUSE

The real cause is the Okoda drivers themselves. So many of them are reckless with their driving and think they can do the impossible, an action that has led to the death of so many Lagosians and others left with serious injuries.

Okadas has also become the number 1 means of transportation for Armed Robbers in Lagos, as it provides an easy means of escape than a vehicle.

THOSE WHO WILL SUFFER

The Over-weight.........they will now have to trek long distances to reach the nearest bus-stop carrying extra loads
The dis-abled......they will have to look for a way to move short distances
The food vendors.....many of their customers are okada drivers
Touts aka Omoniles.....their major customers are the Okada drivers from whom they collect toll from
The Police.....okada is one of their major customers, no more Egunje (so sad)
Baba Alayes....returns from the touts will reduce drastically, instead of having 1 wife and many GFs, they will now settle for just a few GFs.
Okada importers.....that container on the high seas will have to be diverted to another state or country
Okada dealers......will have to either close shop or shift base to other states

BENEFIT

Lagosians will become more fit.....since we will now have to walk several distances every day
Car dealers......those who can't trek will be forced to buy cars

WHAT NEXT

Danfo buses I guess. They most likely will be replaced soon like their Molue cousins
