West Indies battle to glorious win over hosts Sri Lanka to win World Twenty20 title

West Indies, for so long a poor imitation of their illustrious predecessors, brought hope of a long-awaited Caribbean revival with a thrilling victory against all the odds over Sri Lanka to lift the World Twenty20 trophy in Colombo.
A victory that will be celebrated by all in cricket outside Sri Lanka looked impossible when West Indies struggled to 32 off their first 10 overs as Mahela Jayawardene turned the screw in his home Premadasa Stadium conditions
West Indies were led by the intelligent and enthusiastic Darren Sammy, they had the perfect group of players to choose from to win a T20 tournament - powerful hitters and an embarrassment of riches when it comes to bowling options.
