Tiger
Woods was barred from teeing off at Muirfield on Monday morning— as
security staff resurrected memories of the World No 1’s first visit
to the notoriously restrictive East Lothian club.
Despite
the incident, however, his coach insisted that neither disruption of
his normal routine nor a niggling elbow injury would divert the
American superstar from his pursuit of Open Championship glory.
About
to tee off on the 10th at around ten to seven in the morning, the
American was told that no players were allowed to begin practice
rounds until 7am on the dot.
The
last time the tournament was played here, in 2002, Woods was
infamously prevented from reaching the practice range by an officious
security guard who didn’t recognise the planet’s most famous
athlete and here he fell foul of another stickler as he attempted to
make his traditional early start to practice, with skier girlfriend
Lindsey Vonn in tow.
The
tournament begins on Thursday.
