The Miami Heat some few minutes ago made history. Four consecutive NBA Finals.
Since 1987, only
three different teams (The 1991-1993 Chicago Bulls, 1996-1998 Chicago Bulls and
the 2000-2002 Los Angeles Lakers) have won three straight Championships.
No team
during that period has appeared in four straight NBA Finals.
Only one team
has ever appeared in four or more consecutive NBA Finals and that was the
Celtics, though of a much earlier era, from 1957-1966 and at a time when the
NBA only had 9 total teams not 30 and when it was possible to win only two
series (and a total of seven games) to advance to the title round. Now there
are 15 teams in each conference, and three series and 12 victories are required
to serve as their Finals representative.
Basically, it
is very difficult now for a team to appear in four straight NBA Finals, explaining
why teams with even the great Michael “Air” Jordan (Chicago Bulls), Larry Birds
(Boston Celtics) and Magic Johnson (Los Angeles Lakers) never made it to four
straight NBA Finals. In fact most of these guys never own more than 2
consecutive NBA Championships.
Now, Miami
Heat with LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have made it to four
straight NBA Finals in winning the Eastern Conference and eliminating the
Indiana Pacers in Game 6 at home.
And if they
can win whichever team that wins the Western Conference Finals, they would be
winning 3 straight NBA Championships. Amazing feat for a group of guys just put
together less than 5 years ago by Heat’s President Pat Riley.
The first
half ended with Miami Heat up by 60 points to the pacers 34 points and by the
third quarter, the contest was all over as Miami lead by almost 30 points over the
Pacers. The game ended with Miami winning by 117 points to Pacers 92.
LeBron James ended with 25 points, 4 Rebounds and 6 Assists to lead the Heat to their 4th straight NBA Finals.
Hunger is the driving force of the Miami Heat. The hunger to do the impossible and attain the unattainable. Today, they've achieve half of that goal and who says they can’t go all the way to fulfilling the other half, 3 straight NBA Championships.
