Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Obot Akpabio has
sign into law the “mother of all Pension ever”, after the Akwa Ibom State
Assembly passed what can only be described as the most outrageous and most
controversial pension bill in the history of humanity. You can read it Here.
But just to summarize, the following are his benefits for life and that of his deputy after he leaves office and to gain favour for the bill, he included past governors of the state and also those of the old cross river's state. Can you imagine?

Read and be shocked:
Free medical services for Akpabio and
his wife at a sum not exceeding N100 million while his deputy gets N50 million
Befitting accommodation not
below a 5- bed room maisonette in either Abuja or Akwa Ibom.
His wife is also to enjoy a N12 million
medical allowance in case she survives him.
A sum not exceeding N5 million per month to employ domestic staff while the deputy gets N2.5 million for the same purpose.
300 per cent furniture allowance,
300 per cent vehicle maintenance and
fuelling, (Both earned severance gratuity of 300 per cent salary),
Yearly utility of 100 per cent
Entertainment allowance of 100 per cent..
Again the question I find
begging for an answer is 'how did we get to this point in our country's
development, where it has become legal to steal from the purse of your state.
How did we arrive at this wicked stage in our democracy?
Is this democracy or a legalized form of corruption?
I am beginning to be inclined to the 'great' Fela's definition of our democracy as the "demonstration of craze".
Akpabios' former governor and deputy pension law is nothing short of a crazy demonstration of legalized corruption that is soon to sweep through the other states as other governors are sure to follow this path.

I feel so sorry for the indigenes of Akwa Ibom State as this is sure to negatively affect the progress of the state's development.
GodSaveAkwaIbomState. GodSaveNigeria.
