Students Of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo Take Over Abuja Expressway In Protest Of Tuition Fees Hike

These are certainly not the best of times to be a university student, as one higher institution after another keeps increasing their tuition fees resulting in the students going on protest.

This time it’s the students of Ondo State Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owo who this morning began a major protest to protest against the rise in tuition fees at their institution.

The state-owned polytechnic had jerked up the annual school fees from 21,300 for students in National Diploma in sciences to N58,300 ND and 53,800 to 73,000 and 78,500
The management of the school was said to have further imposed an additional 20,000 on non-indigenes.
It was said that the new fee regime commence just shortly after Governor Olusegun Mimiko won his second term election in the state.

Majority of the students could not afford the fees and had engaged in dialogue with the school management but to no avail until riots broke out today.

The students took over the busy Owo/Abuja expressway, locked up the office of the rector, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun and also took control of the school’s main gates, drove around Owo to draw attention of residents to their plight.
……….

Is this the year of tuition hike, Which school is next?
