Assassination Attempt On Opposition Leader, Muhammadu Buhari?

There has been what seems like an assassination attempt at former head of state and Chieftain of the opposition APC party, General Muhammadu Buhari.
According to a report by BBC Africa, after a first bomb went off along Alkali Road, a second explosion ripped through the crowded Kawo area, targetting the motorcade of Gen Buhari.

The first explosion was said to have targeted a Muslim clergy who had constantly spoken out against the devilish Boko Haram sect, he wasn't killed in the explosion.

The second explosion was said to have targeted the General as gunmen were said to have traced the convoy of the General and forcefully tried to overtake the security vehicle of the General but was blocked by his escort vehicle only managing to do so when his vehicles slowed down at a kawo market, where they were able to detonated a bomb, destroying three vehicles in the General's convoy and killing passerby's and possible traders at the market.

General Buhari has released a statement on the attack which occurred yesterday on his convoy in Kaduna, describing it as a clear assassination attempt on his life.

Find his statement which was released yesterday and signed by him below:

"I was personally involved in a clearly targeted bomb attack today along Ali Akilu Road, Kawo – Kaduna about 2:30pm on my way to Daura.

The unfortunate event, clearly an assassination attempt, came from a fast moving vehicle that made many attempts to overtake my security car but was blocked by my escort vehicle. We reached the market area of Kawo where he took advantage of our slowing down and attempted to ram my car and instantly denoted the bomb which destroyed all the three cars in our convoy. Unfortunately, when I came out of my vehicle I saw many dead bodies littered around. They were innocent people going about their daily business who became victims of mass murder.

Thank God for His mercy, I came out unhurt but with three of my security staff sustaining minor injuries – they have been treated in hospital and discharged.

Signed: General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd) GCFR”

At least 25 people were killed in the deadly twin explosions. Meanwhile Kaduna state Governor, Ramalan Yero has declared a 24-hour curfew in the Kaduna metropolis following the attacks.
.......
It is clear that if not for the bullet proofing of the General's vehicles, he could have been a dead man. The bullet proof clearly did it work and absorbed the explosions.
This is not right and clearly not the way to treat a man who served Nigeria both as a military head of state and now, an elder statesman. The presidency must take this assassination attempt serious and bring the perpetrators to book, this is a former head of state for crying out loud.
