House
of Representatives today, July 10, asked the FG to resolve the industrial
action embarked upon by members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics.
The
House argued the FG to use every measure necessary to end the lengthy strike,
which started in October 2013.
A
member from Zamfara State, Mr. Ibrahim Shebu-Gusau had informed the House that
the graduation of over 2 million polytechnic students had been stalled because
of the lingering dispute prompting the House to pass the resolution.
Mr.
Ibrahim stressed that on admissions had been carried out by polytechnics this
year and that attempts by the House Committee of Education to intervene in the
crisis had yielded no solution.
He
said the non-released of the White Paper on the Visitation Panel to the
polytechnics in 2012 was one of the major issues affecting the resolution of the
conflict.
