FIFA Warns Nigeria Of Impending Ban For Government Interference In Football

Nigeria faces the prospect of being suspended by FIFA after the country’s football federation leaders were removed from office and its president was arrested on returning from the World Cup.

FIFA has warned Nigeria’s government on Friday it must reinstate the federation’s executive committee by Tuesday or risk a ban.

"FIFA has also taken note of the detention of NFF President Aminu Maigari carried out by representatives of the Department of the State Security Service," the governing body said in a statement.

Aminu was however released after 30 minutes.

The turmoil follows Nigeria's 2-0 loss against France in the second round on Monday.
Nigeria's government also reacted aggressively after the Super Eagles' 2010 World Cup exit. Then, state President Goodluck Jonathan threatened to shut down the national team for two years before FIFA intervened.

FIFA rules protect its 209 member federations from government interference, and a suspension bars teams and officials from taking part in international matches and meetings.
……….
FIFA themselves is corrupt, so its not surprising that they local affiliates are following their footsteps. Nigerian NFF is one of the most corrupt bodies in Nigeria.
They keep owing those working for them while the officials themselves are paid their salaries regularly. The government of Nigeria fully fund the NFF but of course FIFA is a ‘god’ to itself and don’t care as long as their corrupt friends keep enjoying themselves and doing what they do best. Corruption!

None of the things promised Coach Stephen Keshi by the NFF has been fulfilled. The cars he is using were those given to him by Glo for winning the Nations Cup. He is still being housed in an hotel years after he was promised an apartment. This country, na wa.

Please FIFA ban us oh. Abeg ban Nigeria.
