Why is the anonymous syndrome growing

Today you hear people calling in to radio stations and insisting to remain anonymous, even blogs are not spared from these syndrome as a lot of remarks are left with anonymous as the writers.
Are people afraid that their views are inconsistent with their lifestyle and hence afraid that friends and family members may accuse them of not been true (Cognitive dissonance) or is the that, many of them just don't have log in accounts like Facebook, Yahoo, Gmail etc. or is it just another way of some Bloggers boasting their viewer accounts. Of a hundred remarks, eighty are from anonymous.
