This
was the case of Alice Ufot Dorf, who passed on in UUTH Uyo, Akwa Ibom
State on the 28th of June, 2013. This is her story,
according to the information the UWL team gathered, prior to her
death.
Alice
was living with her boyfriend in Eket Akwa Ibom State, then on a
fateful day, Alice slept out the night before then when she got home
the following morning, they got into an argument and the guy brought
out a gallon of fuel, poured it on her and before she could do
anything, he lit matches on her and she started burning; a while
later, the boyfriend who burnt her, rushed her himself to a private
hospital (name of hospital withheld) in Eket, where he dumped her and
warned her not to reveal his identity to anyone and then escaped.
Few hours after he left, I guess she realized she won’t
survive the burns and that was what compelled her to open up and told
the nurse on duty what actually happened to her. Well, she made
a big mistake because the monster who burnt her had already escaped
before she opened up and even at that, she still didn’t reveal the
guy’s identity before her death.
I
wept in my heart when I got to the hospital and was told she passed
on the day before I got there. *Shaking my head* it’s funny how
destinies are being cut short these days because some of us don’t
listen and we don’t seem to value our lives, so we make do with
anything we see in the name of being in a relationship and or being
married. Please my people, let’s all be careful with the way
we live our lives, be careful with the kind of individuals you call
spouse. Some may not be physically abusing you, but emotionally
and otherwise too, flee from these kind of individuals, you deserve
better.
Ladies
please stop living with men you are not married to, because some
married men these days kill their wives and vice-versa, not to
mention those who are not legally married, if Alice had been married
to the monster who did this to her, the hand of the law would have
been able to catch up with him even if he decides to run to the end
of the earth, he would have been identified and dealt with
accordingly. It’s even morally and spiritually wrong to
cohabit with someone who you are not legally married to. Please, I
understand the situation of things right now in the country, but it’s
not enough reason for us to cut short our destinies please!
