Manchester City 5 AC Milan 3: Pellegrini's boys hold off Italian fightback to move into Audi Cup final in the U.S

There were gaps at the back Manuel Pellegrini will want to fill in a hurry, but there was no mistaking Manchester City’s attacking potency as they swept into the Audi Cup final at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Five goals to the good after 35 minutes, they inexplicably allowed AC Milan back in it towards the end of a bizarre first half and might even have paid for their misplaced generosity as the Italians sensed an opportunity to round off one of the more unlikely comebacks in what turned out to be a scoreless second 45 minutes.

It looked like being a rout, as David Silva prodded home a third-minute opener, after good work on the right by Stevan Jovetic, and Micah Richards and Aleksandar Kolarov helped themselves to further goals in the 19th and 22nd minutes.
