Exercising With Diabetes

If you have diabetes and you don’t exercise, you’re three times more likely to have poor blood glucose control and could possibly suffer from diabetes related complications. On the other hand, exercising regularly helps the body become better at transporting glucose…because exercise stimulates the body’s muscles!

Here are a few things to remember:

1. Adults should be aiming for 30 minutes a day of exercise, 5 times a week minimum
2. Exercise should include three components: StrengthSuppleness, and Stamina. “Three S’s”
3. Always warm-up before starting an exercise routine.
4. Be sure to check with your doctor FIRST to be sure your diabetes is stable enough for a new exercise regimen
