PHCN increases Fixed Charge and rates for Pre-paid Meters

I was shocked today to find out after I bought credit for my PHCN Pre-paid meter that the fixed charge has been increased from N 500 to N 750. PHCN means Power Holding Company of Nigerian formerly NEPA.

I remember vividly how Nigerians complained when the rates were initially increased from N 225 to N 500  but instead of adjusting and listening to the wishes of the people, the Government sat back and allowed the New Private Investors to continue the increase to N 750.
The Government says this is to allow the New Private Investors earn their money and make the sector lucrative for others to invest in.
I also saw that the rates have also being increased from N12.45 to N 12.85 per KWH. I see why my meter has been running fast. Being wondering why.

I just have this to tell the Nigeria Government. Remember EGYPT. Egypt is in Africa and what has taken place there can be replicated in Nigeria. We have the number and we also have the will. The thinking in Government that Nigerians when pushed to the wall would rather break the wall and move backwards instead of reacting and moving forward is archaic to say the lest. We are not fools.

For a small group of people elected by the majority to sit down and formulate Draconian laws to remove money from the pocket of the masses and put into their already Fat Bank accounts can not continue. The end is definitely near. We can not become impoverish by the same people we elected to make our lives better.

What PHCN and the New Investors are telling us is that, we must pay N 750 every month whether we have electricity or not. A reliable source at PHCN office told me that the intention is to arrived at N 1000 per month. This is so wrong in so many ways.
This is only possible in a country where the Government does not care about the plight of his people.

It's like Telecommunication companies asking us to pay N 750 for just owning a GSM phone, not for even owning a GSM line but owning a phone you bought with your own money. Because we still pay Electricity rates as we do GSM calls, so why charge us so much for just owning a Pre-paid meter?

I bought this meter with my own money, if anything goes wrong with it, I pay for the repairs. So I don't understand the reason for the increase.

This is a country where so many are jobless, even those with jobs are paid less than minimum wage, strikes from different sectors are gathering momentum and yet the Government doesn't seem to care. They rather take than give.

The Government is constantly trying to make Nigeria like America, sadly only in the issue of paying more for services that are not delivered.

We just paid for the New Driver's license, now we have to pay for another without the first expiring.
A new Plate Number and now have to pay for another new one.
How many Nigerians are paid Social Securities?
Where is Price regulations and consumer protection? Does it work?
We dig bore holes for our water, now they want to charge us for that.  Can you imagine.
We buy generators for our light, am hearing they want to ban those too.
We pay young men who put stones on our roads to make it motorable
What has our so called Government done for us?

And now, they sit back as exploiters increase our rates and charges.

I only have this to say, remember Egypt, it can happen here, don't be deceived.
