Nigeria qualifies, South African wins but doesn’t. World Cup playoffs.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria this evening qualified for the playoffs round of African World cup qualifiers when they defeated Malawi in Calabar 2 – 1. Goals from Emmanuel Emenike and Victor Moses(Penalty) in the 45 and 52 minutes respectively.

The match was played in a slightly flooded pitch as heavy rain some hours before had caused the pitch to become a little water logged. Nigeria with this victory picked up the only ticket in Group E.

While in other matches, South Africa despite winning their final group match against Botswana at home in Group A were beaten to the only ticket by Ethiopia who came from behind to beat Central African Republic 2-1 away.

Ethiopia had already qualified before this match but had points deducted after South African filed a protest against them for fielding an illegible player in one of their matches.
