Pope Francis has warned that the Catholic Church's moral
structure might "fall like a house of cards" if it doesn't balance
its divisive rules about abortion, gays and contraception with the greater need
to make it a merciful, more welcoming place for all.
Pope Francis, in the first extensive interview of his
six-month-old papacy, said that the Roman Catholic Church had grown “obsessed”
with preaching about abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he has
chosen not to speak of those issues despite recriminations from some critics.
“It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the
time,” the pope told the Rev. Antonio Spadaro, a fellow Jesuit and editor in
chief of La Civilta Cattolica, the Italian Jesuit journal whose content
is routinely approved by the Vatican. “The dogmatic and moral teachings of the
church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be
obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be
imposed insistently.
He told a Jesuit magazine the Church must show balance and "heal
wounds".
MY TAKE:
Am loving this pope every day, he is definitely trying to be like Jesus.
Am not too fond of the Catholic Church but I fully agreed with some of his
opinions.
If Jesus was to be on earth today how would he treat a Gay person?
Will He love a Gay man or condemn him?
Will He pray for a Gay man or Curse him?
Will He send a Gay man out of the Church or sit him on the front seat?
Will He give him food and ask to eat in his house or turn completely
from him?
Will He hate him, antagonize him and castigate him or love him?
The answers to these questions can be seen in the way Jesus treated the
woman caught in adultery (unnamed), and the tax collector, Zacchaeus, He showed
them LOVE and helped them to find the truth.
The Church which is a representative of Jesus on earth should therefore
begin to act as Jesus, this is the only way we can indeed begin to reconcile
the world back to God through Christ Jesus.
Am certainly learning from this pope and that's strange. But am glad.
