Death Toll Of Ebute Metta Building Collapse Rises To Seven

A three storey building has collapsed on Oloto Street in Ebute Metta area of Lagos, claiming at least two lives, it was initially reported but now, that number has increased to seven while a number of people were trapped in the building rubble when it collapsed.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) confirmed to Channels Television that the collapse occurred at about 2am Thursday morning.
Two dead bodies were earlier recovered before five more.
NEMA says two children are part of the rescued persons early this morning.
Nigeria’s commercial city has been consistently recording a number of building collapse in recent months with lives lost.
Eyewitness accounts claim occupants of the building heard some sounds in the building around 1am, prompting all of them to evacuate after noticing some cracks on the wall of the building.
They returned into the building at about 2am, only for the entire structure to collapse shortly after.

The NEMA official added that seven people have been rescued so far, while operations by the police, men of the state fire service and volunteers were continuing to rescue the remaining victims.
