What is happening in India and Pakistani - Generational shift?

The continuous incidents of rape, gang rape and honour killings going on in some parts of India and Pakistan has taken the world by shock. Never in the history of any country to the best of my knowledge has there been a wild spread of cases of gang rape and deaths resulting from it as I have seen and heard in india and Pakistan over the past few months.

Every single day we hear of gang rape stories, killings of young girls and women after been raped and yet very few people are brought to book for these horrendous crimes against women. It's become as if it's an acceptable norm to gang rape a girl and where she puts up a resistance, do it anyway and then kill her. And where she complies, do it, beat her up and leave her to die or threaten her to tell no one or else she dies. Even the police have been implicated in some of this ordeals.

But when did these start and what possibly gave rise to this evil never seen before?

For many years india was a country where peace reigned, yes there have always been the demarcation of the rich from the poor but the poor tended to be a group that supported each other. Not until now, where the poor are the ones causing havoc on one another.

Men are moved by what they see the saying goes and women by what they hear. So could it have been that these men committing this crimes may have seen something while growing up that may have affected their balance of thought as they grew older? Taking a good look at the average ages of the men committing this rape crime suggest they are mostly of the same age bracket, thereof, likely from the same generation.

Even if this theory isn't one that most people may want to consider or believe, it is one that still has to be exploited seeing there is no other means to explain this sudden character shift.

So how did it all start?

As a kid I grow up watching loads of Indian Films. These films had strict moral standards. I never remember seeing an indian film where a man kissed a woman mouth to mouth. It was always mouth to cheek.

And India has a rich heritage when it comes to cinema. Bollywood is rated as one the biggest film industry in the world, only second to Hollywood. But how time flies. Some can argue that Nollywood is next but I beg to differ. That however, is a story for another time.

Due largely to the in flow of Western culture, Bollywood is not as strict in it's moral standards as before. Today in Indian we even have Porn stars, something that was unheard of in the 80s' and 90s'. Imagine a women acting a sex film in India and even being considered a celebrity - unbelievable, but now true.

Today, all kinds of films make their way into the indian film market and thanks to technology, anyone can have access to them. Piracy and technology has made it easy for any film, practically any film to be available for anyone to watch on any format and platform. Including mobile phones.

A quick check on these men would likely revealed they have been exposed to nudity and heavily sexually induced films growing up and with the combination of poverty, the desire to rapidly release frustration is given birth, sadly through the act of rape or forceful sex.

When these men see an opening or a vulnerable woman, instead of offering her a helping hand, they see an opportunity to do the unthinkable. Calling on others even to join in. The larger the perpetrators, the lesser likely the authorities is to prosecute the case they seem to believe. This mentality has so far paid dividend as very few cases of gang rape have been successful prosecuted with the victim getting their desire justice. Only a handful of isolated cases of single rape have gain convictions.

So coming back home, what does this hold for Nigeria? What type of generation are we building? What principles and ethics are the next generations been taught and what cultural values if any at all are we teaching our children?

This has become a country where those considered as celebrities are those, who with little or no shame whatsoever, gladly expose what is suppose to be hidden in the open; cleavage is happily exposed by the so called female celebrities for all to see, all in the name of entertainment. Even married women are not left out. When asked why they do it, they'll tell you they are trying to save their marriages by competing with the young girls who do the same things to attract their husbands.

Female artists mount raised platform, even the establish ones, to sing without wearing panties so they can become the next big thing trending on social media for weeks.

Every single songs is targeted at dehumanising the female gender with all kinds of degrading names and tags given to them and yet you see the female folks dancing their hearts out to this beats.

Songs are written without any recourse to meaningful lyrics. Videos are done with the sole purpose of steering up erotic feelings from the viewers or how would you describe the increasing numbers of music videos been banned by the NBC for excessive nudity content.

Even the ones that pass the NBC test leave much to be desired. Its even becoming a vogue to do a video and have it banned. You can run to watch it in online.

Female arts do videos where they simulate different sexually techniques, pleasure moments and positions while their male counterparts back them up on twitter and Facebook, yet these so call male celebrities will never allow their own wives dress or act anywhere near their female counterpart. Money seem to be the only motivating factor and not the love of the act for these new "so called" celebrity. The days of Sonny Okosun, Onyeka Onwunu, where people sing for purpose seems like light years away now.

Their acting counterpart are not left out either.
Majority of the marriages contracted by Nollywood "so called" stars are what another Nigerian artist rightly called "second-hand" marriages, or how else can you explain a case where over 70 percent of the marriages by Nollywood female actors are contracted with men who were either still legally married one way or the other or having to divorce their current wives to marry these actresses.

This explains another sad trend where majority of these marriages don't survive beyond 2 years. Some are even contesting with that of some Hollywood "so called" celebrities. Lasting for less than 3 months and therefore, needing to marry over and over again. Where a lady claiming to be under 35-years old already have more than 2 husbands.

Another thing common with these marriages is the huge wastage of funds, as no expense is spared to contract a wedding where the people involved were never at any time prepared for married life. For them, the glamour of the wedding day will suffice for their deficiencies in the marriage. If love is blind, it is said, marriage is the eye opener. How quickly they find this saying to be true.

But how can these marriages last when in fact they stole their partners from another woman's marital home.

These again are the same people the young generations see as role models. So you can only imagine what these ones will do and become when they grow up.

Education has been left to the burners. The standard of education is at it's lowest ebb with parents encouraging their children or the school they attend to cheat in exams, in order for their children to come out in flying colours.

These kids are been taught by their own parents that cutting corners is right as long as you get what you want. Basically they are saying "crime pays as long as you are not caught" and even when caught, deny it. "It wasn't me - Shaggy"

Our Universities are become training grounds not for educational purposes but high class prostitutions. Female students are drilled in the acts of seduction. Some of them spend their weekends with political "sugar daddy's" in Abuja and are flown back to school monday morning with loads of cash to pay off their lecturers.
Every friday nights the female hostels are busy, this happens across the nation, from ABU, Zaria to UNILAG, Lagos. No school is spared this horror.

If getting money is this easy, why then should I bother to school - they tell themselves.

Male student serves as pimps and arrange for girls to be "serve" to fat belly money paying men while their parents think they are in school reading. Only few parents, mainly those who put a close watch on their wards come to find out this hard truth. Some have even preferred not wanting to know, as long as she finishes school with a grade, any grade, its okay. You see, grade doesn't really matter when searching for a job in Nigeria. Connection "who you know" is everything.

Cultism has become a norm and a sure way to fend off the possibility of uncomfortable experiences in school, but that's just like running from fried pan to fire.

The good thing about this is, just like Charity, it would begin in the homes of parents who were willing to look the other way and continue there.
Today children kill their parents for refusing to give them money to buy Blackberry and iphones.

This habit was imbibed in them a long time ago, they only just started displaying it.

Or how else do you explain a clear case where a serving member of the National House of Assembly was caught on video demanding and receiving bribe from a businessman but he is still today in the same house serving himself.

The fastest way to wealth in Nigeria today is politics. Poor today billionaire tomorrow. They are never satisfied with stealing just millions again, it must be 9 zeros or else it's not worth it.

These are the groups of people our next generations are looking up to for counsel and motivation.

If India and pakistan are experiencing what they are today because of the possible shift in the moral equilibrium of the filming industry what is Nigeria likely to face not many years from now for all the wrong shifting in almost every area of our national life. Your guess is as good as mine. Already we are seeing some signs of decade of political corruption and abuse just manifestly now.
