Ivory Coast Serey Die breaks down during national anthem following father’s death few hours to kick off

While the national anthem of Ivory Coast was being played in their second match of the on-going World Cup, Ivory Coast international Serey Die was seen crying. A sign most people associates with patriotism but what most people didn’t know was that, Die had just lost his father some hours before the kick-off of their match with Colombia.

As the Ivory Coast anthem played out, the brave midfielder broke down. Sporting a blond Mohawk, Die tried to keep a stiff upper lip in an attempt to sing the words of his nation’s anthem but just couldn't control his tears.

Defenders Serge Aurier and former Tottenham man Didier Zokora were quick to console Die before the match got underway.

Unfortunately, the outcome of the match will do little to console him as Ivory Coast lost the game 2 -1 due majorly to defensive errors.
