World
Cup holders Spain got the shock of their life when they were beaten blue, black
and red by Netherlands 5 – 1. They were humble, hammered and humiliated by
Netherlands.
Prior
to this match, Spain had only conceded 3 goals in two major competitions, World
Cup 2010 and Euro 2012 combined. The goal scored by Robin Van Persie was the
first goal Spain conceded in 2014. That is in 13 games, Spain had only conceded
3 goals. Today they conceded 5.
Spain had beaten The Netherlands in the 2010 World Cup finals to win the cup.
Spain
opened the scoring with a penalty through Alonso after Diego Costa was deemed to have
been brought down, before Robin Van Persie scored what can be considered as the
goal of the tournament thus far and one of the goals of the tournament, a
flying header to level scores at 1 – 1.
Netherlands
in the second half scored 4 goals. The second goal was scored by Arjen Robben, who was picked
out by Robin Van Persie in the middle with a lob-wedge of a pass, his first
touch is brilliant, he then cuts inside Gerard Pique and lashes into the roof
of the net.
The
third came from a free kick that keeper Casillas mistime and allowed Stefan de
Vrij to bundle in. Iker Casillas made a similar mistake in the Champions League
finals against Atlectico Madrid, but was redeemed by a last minute goal by
Ramos.
Robin
Van Persie scored again after a howler from yet again Spanish goal keeper, Iker
Casillas, after he made an absolute shocker and allow Robin to take the ball
from his feet and put into an empty post.
The
fifth goal was the second for Arjen Robben, as he teared past Sergio Ramos
with ease before going around Iker Casillas, getting the ball on to his left
foot and lashing in.
Arjen
Robben is undoubtedly my man-of-the-match.
It
was an unbelievable display from the Netherlands who have convincingly revenge
for their lost to Spain in the 2010 World Cup finals.
one....two.....three....four....five....crazy for Spain
