Indian woman shot dead for resisting rape

A 35-year old mother of four has been killed by rebels in northeast Meghalaya State in the latest string of sexual crimes in India.

She was shot dead by the rebels for resisting their attempts to gang-rape her, Police said, in the latest strings of sexual crimes to shock India.

Authorities are saying fighters of the outlawed Garo National Liberation Army attacked a woman in the remote South Garo Hills in Meghalaya state late on Tuesday, after locking her husband and children inside a room before turning on her.

This incident comes amid global outrage over the gang-rape and murder of two teenage girls in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh last week.

On Tuesday, the United Nations condemned the attacks on the girls, with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon saying he was “appalled” by the Uttar Pradesh Killings.

“We say not to the dismissive, destructive attitude of ‘boys will be boys’,” Ban said, referring to a controversial remark made by an Indian politician earlier this year.

The leader of the Samajwadi Party, Mulayam Singh Yadav, whose son Akhilesh is chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, told an election rally in April he opposed the recently introduced death penalty for gang-rapists, saying “boys makes mistakes”.

So this leader is calling gang-rape of innocent women and girls a mistake made by boys. Now I see why this devilish act has continued and even policemen are getting in on the act. After all, it’s a mistake that boys shouldn’t be punished for. Unbelievable! And women will vote for this party?
